一天，一只猴子在家闲得无聊，猴妈妈交给它一个任务，去外面找点吃的带回家。于是，小猴子蹦蹦跳跳、高高高兴兴地出门了。走着走着，它看到了一棵结满香蕉的香蕉树，兴奋地爬到树上摘了只香蕉，一边吃一边继续往前走。没过多久，它又看到了一片玉米地，于是它扔下没吃完的香蕉，摘了两穗玉米走了。小猴子愉快地哼着歌继续往前走，忽然，有棵桃树出现在它眼前，小猴子眼前一亮，把手中的玉米一扔，跑到桃树前摘桃子吃。
就这样，小猴子一边走一边吃还一边扔，直到太阳公公快落山了，手里什么也没留下，肚子也没吃饱，妈妈交代的任务也没完成。小猴子沮丧地低着头往回走，这时，刚好经过大象的家，看见一只大象驮着一整筐香蕉回到家，正准备和家人吃晚餐。小猴子终于明白了，做什么事情都不能三心二意，要一心一意才能把事情做好。
回到家后，小猴子向妈妈承认了错误，并表示以后一定要向大象学习，一心一意做事，踏踏实实完成妈妈交代的任务，做个好孩子。
